Frequently Asked Questions About Pharmacy Compounding
Compounded medications are individually prepared for a patient’s specific medical needs, as opposed to commercially prepared medications which are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies in bulk. Compounded medications are based on a tailored prescription that you’ve received from your doctor, or in some cases may have been recommended by a healthcare professional, taking into account your allergies, lifestyle and/or preferences. Our compounding pharmacists will work with your doctor to customise the strength and dosage of a medication, according to your individual needs.
The dosage compounded is tailored specifically to the patient’s needs, and may come in many forms including patches, chewables, suppositories, mixtures, dissolvable tablets, or gels. It enables you to receive an effective dosage free of any problematic ingredients.
Whether you can claim insurance on your compounded prescription will depend on your health care cover, so we recommend speaking to your insurance provider with regards to this.
It usually takes between 24 and 48 hours for your compounding order to be ready for collection, and we will always endeavour to have orders prepared as soon as possible. However, in some cases an ingredient may need to be ordered in, and this can delay the compounding by several days. If your order is urgent, please call us and we’ll see what we can do for you.
Most of our medications are only available with a prescription, however we do supply several items that do not require a prescription. Contact us to find out more.
